Saturday, Nov. 24, is this year’s day for small businesses to shine — it’s the first Saturday after Thanksgiving and one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
It’s a day created specifically for small businesses. American Express founded Small Business Saturday® in 2010 as a way to encourage people to shop local around the country. Shopping small means choosing to cross off your Christmas list at small businesses throughout North East; exploring what our local businesses have to offer, and finding that unique gift for someone you love.
In addition to supporting our local businesses, the Chamber is also offering an incentive for those who shop small on November 24. The first 50 shoppers who stop in at the Chamber office (44 West Main Street) after 10am will receive a free Shop Small tote bag – half of these bags will have a North East Gift Certificate in them. North East Gift certificates are accepted at over 70 chamber member businesses here in North East. Ten bags will have $5 certificates, 10 bags will have $10 gift certificates, and 5 bags will have $20 gift certificates!
As a small business, when you register to participate in Small Business Saturday®, you gain access to marketing materials, printable posters, templates for social media posts, and more. It is free to participate. Sign up your business for at https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/shop-small/.
The Chamber has registered as a Small Business Saturday Neighborhood Champion and has once again booked a full page ad in the North East News Journal to promote the event and let everyone in the community know when our businesses are open. To be included in the ad, email your hours of operation for Small Business Saturday® to email@example.com or call the chamber office at 725-4262. The ad will appear on November 16 & 23 and is open to all North East businesses.
North East’s annual celebration of lighting up downtown, singing carols and welcoming Santa Claus takes place Saturday, November 24th. Beginning at 5:30 pm, gather in Gibson Park to sing Christmas carols and await Santa and Mrs. Claus’s arrival by fire truck. Then, at 6:00 we will flip the switch and light up all the decorations, officially kicking off the holiday season in North East.
Later, warm up at First Baptist Church (43 S Lake St), where there will be hot cocoa and Sanders’ cookies served by Boy Scout Troop 82. Kids can even see Santa and make their Christmas requests. The PA State Grape Queen and Princesses will be on hand with samples of grape juice too!
Light Up North East is brought to you by the North East Chamber of Commerce, Downtown North East, Concord Plumbing & Heating, Edward Jones- Joellen Nelson and Daniel Young, Knox McLaughlin Gornall & Sennett PC, North East Dental Arts, WICU-WSEE-CW, Widget Financial, and Hometown Veterinary Hospital.
