Saturday, Nov. 28, is this year’s day for small businesses to shine — it’s the first Saturday after Thanksgiving and one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
It’s a day created specifically for small businesses. American Express founded Small Business Saturday® in 2010 as a way to encourage people to shop local around the country. Shopping small means choosing to cross off your Christmas list at small businesses throughout North East; exploring what our local businesses have to offer, and finding that unique gift for someone you love.
Please remember to practice proper social distancing and respect the rules at each business. Don’t forget that many businesses require masks and some have limits to the number of customers that can be in the building at one time.
As a small business, when you register to participate in Small Business Saturday®, you gain access to marketing materials, printable posters, templates for social media posts, and more. It is free to participate. Sign up your business for at https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/shop-small/.
The Chamber has registered as a Small Business Saturday Neighborhood Champion and has once again booked a full page ad in the North East News Journal to promote the event and let everyone in the community know when our businesses are open. To be included in the ad, email your hours of operation for Small Business Saturday® to email@example.com. The ad will appear on November the two Thursdays leading up to the event and is open to all North East businesses.
After much thought and consideration, Light Up North East has been canceled for 2020. Although the decorations downtown will still be lit on the evening of November 28, an organized event is not possible at this time.
Pandemic restrictions limit us to 250 people gathered in a space, and this includes the park. Unfortunately, because the event regularly draws over 500 people we have had to make the decision to cancel for this year.
The parade is also cancelled, as we cannot risk crowds gathering close together at the street.
If you have already signed up to participate, we apologize. This is not a decision we wanted to make, and appreciate your understanding as we navigate the restrictions in place at this time.
